WOW

First I would like to say thanks to everyone for putting so
much hard work into this 2006 Field Day. I would like to
say a special thanks to John Thomason for coming to the
W5PAA Field Day.

We had a great turn out with the GOTA station. They made
over 150 contacts alone in a 24 hr period. The balloon antenna
was a great success. Two 66-inch latex balloons were 125ft
in the air. There was very little wind so the balloons were
very effective. In an emergency situation the rapid deployment
of a balloon antenna could be very useful.

On the competition HF radio we made approximately 300
contacts in a 24 hr period.
We used Jim Barton’s dipole antenna. Setting up the antenna
was a great experience. Tom Carl climbed the existing 100-foot
tower behind the Bridge Creek Fire Department and placed the
dipole at about 60 to 70 feet.

The first contact was made by Larry, (K5UZI) at 1300 hr on
Saturday. The last contact was made on Sunday at 1255 hr
by Stephanie, (KE5GRX). Jared (KE5GRS), W5PAA’s youngest
ham, made his first contact Saturday night.

The raffles were a huge success! We generated approximately
$175.00 with raffle tickets and donations.

We had plenty of great food and drinks for everyone.
The cookout on Saturday went over very well. The fire
department had their annual family picnic on Saturday
as well. We combined the two groups together and cooked
over 350 hamburgers and hotdogs. Talk about feeding an army!

The overnight hours were quiet, but a lot of contacts were
made. A lot of people went home, but we had several that
slept in their vehicles, and a couple that didn’t sleep at all.
24 hours seemed to fly by, and before you knew it, it was
time to wrap things up.
Field Day 2006 is an experience I will never forget. We had
so much fun! Those of you that didn’t make it, you missed
out on a wonderful experience. I’m already looking forward
to FD 2007! The last thing the firemen said before we left
was “See you next year.” I hope so.

FIELD DAY 2006 PLANS

Hello,

Field Day is less than a week away and plans are coming
together great. The club will operate on field day at the
Bridge Creek fire Station. We will be working inside the
fire station, also the club will have a Novice & Technician
Radio set up outside for those that would like to operate a
radio, and for non-hams. We are going to have a cookout
Saturday night. We should start cooking around 18:00 hr.
We ask that you please bring what you want to eat.
There will be hot coals for you to cook on. The club is
providing drinks, ice, chips, plates & utensils.

The club will have a banner and table in front of the
fire station with some handouts and brochures with
club information.
We will have some goodies to raffle off like ARRL t-shirts.
We will also have a 50/50 drawing, and more! Don’t miss it!!

The fire department is having their annual family picnic.
There will be petting zoo, volleyball net and horseshoes.
If you have a yard game bring it. Sounds like fun, huh?
There is a small area in the back of the station that is
available for yard games. If you plan to spend time outdoors,
there is no seating, so make sure to bring lawn chairs. Also,
make sure to bring the bug spray, it's mosquito season.

We will be operating the full 24 hrs., so if you can’t sleep
that night feel free to come out and visit us. We still have
a lot of open slots to fill for the radio during the late night.

Directions to the Bridge Creek Fire Department:

If you are coming from the OKC Area:

Go South on Hwy 44 to Tri City exit. Turn right (West) onto
Hwy 37 (as if you were going to Tuttle) to Sara Road about
5 to 6 miles (just past the river bridge, the only bridge on
Hwy 37). Turn left (South) onto Sara Road. Go to the first
stop sign (about 3 miles); go another 1/4 mile and you will
see the Fire Department on your right (West).

If you are coming from Mustang Area:

Go South on Hwy 4, cross Hwy 37 go about 4 miles to
Foxx Lane. Before you reach Foxx Lane, you will see a
sign saying “THE LAST FREE EXIT”. Look for the small sign
(right side of Hwy 4) that says <--BRIDGE CREEK. Turn
left onto Foxx Lane (East), go to the first stop sign
(about 1.3 miles). DO NOT TURN RIGHT at the next
small sign that says BRIDGE CREEK-->; keep on going,
go to the FIRST stop sign, then turn right (South) onto
Sara Road. Go 1/4 mile and you will see the Fire
Department on your right (West).
PARKING: You MUST park in the open field South of the
Fire Department, near the single-wide trailer house.
DO NOT BLOCK THE FRONT OF THE
FIRE DEPARTMENT!!!!!

NOTE=================================NOTE
The Tri City area is part of the Newcastle City Limits
(McClain County) -They love giving speeding tickets.

When you cross County Line Road (Grady County),
you are in the City Limits of Tuttle - They too love
giving speeding tickets.

PL tone 141.3

IRLP IS UP

IRLP is here and ready for use.

Here are some helpful tips that can help you get started in a new world of 2 Meter Radio.

There are two connection modes for an IRLP connection. Direct one-to-one or, one-to-many via a Reflector.

Direct connect is just like it sounds where repeater (node) "A" connects direct with node "B". With this type of link the two nodes are interconnected and no other IRLP connections are possible. While repeaters "A" and "B" are connected, anyone attempting to connect with either node will be told by a recording that - "The node you are calling is currently connected to callsign" however all local traffic on each repeater will be heard on the other repeater as well. If you are connected to a reflector then the node that is trying to connect to you can connect to the reflector and call you then.

How to connect tothe IRLP:
Simply dial the node you wish to call on the dtmf key pad on your radio, then unkey the mic.
Then the repeater will connect you to the node you selected.
After the node comes up and finishes it's transission, then you're ready to talk.

How to disconnect from IRLP:
When you finished your transmission and your ready to clear off irlp you need to say, "Callsign clearing off irlp." Then on your dtmf pad you need to press 73, release your mic then you will hear a recording that will tell you that you disconnected.
Then you are clear from the IRLP and the repeater is back to normal use.

Travis, KE5EQI, from Yukon, OK has a HP model 120 Oscilloscope. This is an older piece of equipment. Since Travis isn't familiar with the equipment he's not sure if it works. There is no manual for the oscilloscope. Please make an offer. Pictures are available through net control. Net controls email is posted in the profile.

Travis also has a multi-function counter, by Tenmar. He thinks it does work, and he has the manual. Frequency measurement range 10 Hz to 100Hz prescaled by 10, + - 1 count, + - time base error x frequency, has a "wait about 20 minutes for correct measurement until the crystal oven oscillator gets stable engaging". The First Net

Our first net was a success! We had six check-ins, with two people having items for the swap meet.

WD0GWO was our first check-in of the night. Tom, from Arlington Texas has a 32 ft. free-standing galvanized steel tower with rotor plates, mounting brackets and hardware. He is asking $300 or will consider trading for a dual-band radio of equal or similar value. Please e-mail for more info.

WA7WNM, Stan from Bridge Creek, Oklahoma checked in with a Kenwood TS440 automatic antenna tuner. Stan can be reached through Net Control, Sean Carl at the email listed on the profile to the right.
